Minneapolis, here we come!

Excitement is very much upon me. It is so surreal… I am a National Delegate to the Republican National Convention! I represent 300,000 people! I know that when I get there, I will have a blast. But it’s not just about me. It is about the people of Texas, the citizens of CD22. We are strong-principled, moral, pro-family, Christian individuals and our voice needs to be heard. As I understand it, there will be no shortage of media at the convention, and I believe that, if I keep my wits about me, my age should put in the position to speak to many members of the part and of the media. And I will represent the people of CD22 professionally and respectfully. And I will have a great time doing it.

Sitting at the airport, I’ve been listening to the ramblings on of ignorant America and the bias of the media. While indulging myself in a chai tea latte from starbucks, I happened upon today’s USA Today. On the front page was John McCain’s VP pick Sarah Palin right? NO! Of course not! Instead we get to set our gaze upon a picture of Barack and Michelle Obama smiling for their liberal-biased cameras atop a “human interest” piece about “Change!” Seriously? And people try and act like there is no media bias! A gentleman (a word I use quite generously) sitting behind me was talking about how it Barack “seems like an honest guy. He doesn’t play games.” He said, quite stupendously, “Unlike when Bush goes overseas, Obama has crowds of thousands waving flags. It makes me feel good to be an American when European countries are waving our flag.” Seriously? I mean, come on! Do you hear yourself? If socialist countries are waving your flag, and welcoming you with open arms… that a BAD SIGN! Don’t get me wrong. I WANT other countries to appreciate and respect us as their allies, but not because we are becoming them. We are the greatest nation on the Earth, and there are reasons why. I won’t list them here. But I will tell you this: We aren’t the best because we copy the failed systems of other governments. We aren’t the best because we are a nation controlled by government. We aren’t the best because we are followers. We are the best because we believe that the individual is where greatness lies. The ingenuity, free-thinking, literary, political, economical, military, technological, philosophical, and relational landmarks that our country is known for DID NOT COME FROM WANTING TO BE LIKED BY EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, WAVING OUR FLAGS. It came from standing up to these countries while they blew holes in our flag and burned our flag. It came from fighting for what we believe in most. FREEDOM & LIBERTY!

Let’s talk

In response to me being a delegate, I have received both money and comments. Some constructive, some otherwise. Today I received an email from a gentleman who reminded me of a few things I would like to discuss. He wanted, as is no surprise to me, to make sure that the youth of this country are in tune with capitalism; what it means, and how we are supposed to be responsible with it. Of course, with so many or my generation blindly following the Obama’s and Pelosi’s of the nation, it is no doubt that many are out of touch, blind following the blind, who have never been truly educated on what makes America the global super-power, the richest nation on the planet… FREE MARKET

Before I delve, let me first concede that I am no expert on economics myself, simply a student of the great minds in whom these ideas were founded. Let me further say that it is NOT lost on me that there are geographical and topographical advantages that our nation has enjoyed which have indeed contributed to our wealth - albeit through the responsible stewardship of those who have gone before us.

In our nation, as it currently is; it does not seem to matter which party is in power, spending increases as does the size of government. We should take note, however, that although our deficit increases bipartisanly (I made up a word, lol), when taxes are cut (i.e. 2003) we see an increase in GDP and, ultimately an increase in tax-revenues. So, until we’re back where we’re supposed to be, continue to vote for Republicans. As I see it. Our problem is not that Republicans don’t understand conservative economics. In fact no one has a platform with better fiscal policies. The problem (one of the problems) is that we have representatives who do not act like Republicans, listen to the people’s voice, who do not follow the party’s platform.

As with all things change must start in our homes, in the minds of our children. Why don’t more people know of Friedman, Smith, Buffet, and Carnegie? Why are money and economics such ignored and off limit subjects in our schools and at homes? Change has got to come if our country is going to survive. Luckily for us to find this change, our proper direction, we need look no further than our own history, from whence we came. Who first comes to my mind, whom I was reminded of today: Milton Friedman. Probably the most brilliant economist of our time. Who I was never fortunate enough to meet before he died a couple of years ago, but from whom many have learned a great deal about how exactly this oh-so-efficient machine of capitalism works.

We need to remind our leaders what “Free Market” means. We need to educate our friends, co-workers and children about capitalism. Else we lose it to the media and the bureaucracies, and become the socialist nation that the democrats THINK they want. Watch the quick clip below. It’s an interview with Milton Friedman concerning Greed. Our schools, our churches, and the media cast wealth and personal agenda in such a negative light that it’s almost taboo to succeed. Milton puts that sentiment in its place, pointing out that while idealism MAY be romantic, it definitely isn’t pragmatic. And in a binary world where you have to chose between 0 and 1 - you take the 1, else dwell in the superfluities of ignorant, idealistic hope.

I have been fortunate enough to find great mentors. A few whom I have met, and many who don’t yet know my name. Below are a couple of reads I recommend for every family, as they are a mental detox when it comes to economics (micro & macro.)

I am absolutely stoked about the convention. I watch the news, go to the local meetings, and browse the blogosphere, and everyone is getting ramped for what is going to be an amazing, powerful, important, and successful National Convention.

So am I. As the final days are drawing near, I find myself poised to jump into the convention, both feet and start spreading the word that the young, the conservative, and the TEXAN voice is not silenced, but strong and energetic.

Hey folks!

I’ll be going to the Republican National Convention on September 1st in Minneapolis, MN. Last month I was elected as one of the 2 John McCain delegates to the convention.

I am very excited! I feel like this is just the beginning. I will have the opportunity to meet so many of our great leaders (and a few of the not-so-great ones.) According to my dad (he was an alternate in ‘96) there will be a lot of partying, politicking (of course), and picture taking.

I appreciate all those who voted for me, and promise to keep you up to date on what is going on at the convention here on my “politik” blog. Updates will come complete with images and youtube videos, no doubt!

I can’t wait to get there, meet people, and let the nation know what CD22 is all about. I will carry with me a message of true conservatism - Christian principle, family, and small business.

Travis Bryan, Chistopher Harvey, and I will demonstrate to the media and our country that Barack Hussein Obama does not own the youth of our great nation!

POLITICS.. But WHY?

Why do I care about politics? In a country where many either ignore or hate politics I find one consistent theme. Mediocrity. Edmund Burke said that all that’s necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. (Of course this was long before the belief that good/bad were relative was mainstream)

In my opinion, our government is like you lawn. If you ignore it will grow, unruly. And I promise, it won’t be pretty. We all need to be as involved as we can. Many often forget that the government in this country is “of, by, and for.” When you refer to the government as “they” instead of “we,” you know you have a problem. It’s not a company, it’s not some foreign entity… it is us. And by the same token that I try and improve myself in every way and in perpetuity, I try and improve my… OUR government.

Ignoring politics, giving up, or just complaining is not just annoying - it’s counterproductive, a you’re to blame… not the ones who try and make change… whatever that change may be.

I decided, at a very young age, that they best use of my talents and my life would be public service. I don’t know where, I don’t know how. I will when I am led, and I will move and I will lead based on principles - not bought by a corporation or pandering to some group’s special agenda.

For now I will work, behind the scenes. I will volunteer, I will donate, and I will do my part. And I will not be to blame.

Hop on board friends, it’s never too late.

Despite recently learning that JM may be bi-sexual (still not corroborated to my satisfaction,) I went to his concert in Dallas this weekend. He is touring with Brett Dennen and Colbie Caillat. They were decent, but Mayer was absolutely phenomenal. You can tell he isn’t there to make money, for love of fame or celebrity - he is there for love of music. His passion and commitment to his music is inspiring to me. His message it, mostly, pure and his vocals and guitar playing superb.

Moreover, I was accompanied to this concert by Paula, so that had its added benefits
