Leaving for Convention!

RNC Center

Xcel Energy Center - 2008 Republican National Convention

Minneapolis, here we come!

Excitement is very much upon me. It is so surreal… I am a National Delegate to the Republican National Convention! I represent 300,000 people! I know that when I get there, I will have a blast. But it’s not just about me. It is about the people of Texas, the citizens of CD22. We are strong-principled, moral, pro-family, Christian individuals and our voice needs to be heard. As I understand it, there will be no shortage of media at the convention, and I believe that, if I keep my wits about me, my age should put in the position to speak to many members of the part and of the media. And I will represent the people of CD22 professionally and respectfully. And I will have a great time doing it.

Sitting at the airport, I’ve been listening to the ramblings on of ignorant America and the bias of the media. While indulging myself in a chai tea latte from starbucks, I happened upon today’s USA Today. On the front page was John McCain’s VP pick Sarah Palin right? NO! Of course not! Instead we get to set our gaze upon a picture of Barack and Michelle Obama smiling for their liberal-biased cameras atop a “human interest” piece about “Change!” Seriously? And people try and act like there is no media bias! A gentleman (a word I use quite generously) sitting behind me was talking about how it Barack “seems like an honest guy. He doesn’t play games.” He said, quite stupendously, “Unlike when Bush goes overseas, Obama has crowds of thousands waving flags. It makes me feel good to be an American when European countries are waving our flag.” Seriously? I mean, come on! Do you hear yourself? If socialist countries are waving your flag, and welcoming you with open arms… that a BAD SIGN! Don’t get me wrong. I WANT other countries to appreciate and respect us as their allies, but not because we are becoming them. We are the greatest nation on the Earth, and there are reasons why. I won’t list them here. But I will tell you this: We aren’t the best because we copy the failed systems of other governments. We aren’t the best because we are a nation controlled by government. We aren’t the best because we are followers. We are the best because we believe that the individual is where greatness lies. The ingenuity, free-thinking, literary, political, economical, military, technological, philosophical, and relational landmarks that our country is known for DID NOT COME FROM WANTING TO BE LIKED BY EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, WAVING OUR FLAGS. It came from standing up to these countries while they blew holes in our flag and burned our flag. It came from fighting for what we believe in most. FREEDOM & LIBERTY!

“America is the Greatest Country in the World, Now Help Me Change it!”

Barack Obama

You’ve gotta be kidding me!

A quick clip:

See ya in MSP!

Economics & Fiscal Responsibility

Let’s talk

In response to me being a delegate, I have received both money and comments. Some constructive, some otherwise. Today I received an email from a gentleman who reminded me of a few things I would like to discuss. He wanted, as is no surprise to me, to make sure that the youth of this country are in tune with capitalism; what it means, and how we are supposed to be responsible with it. Of course, with so many or my generation blindly following the Obama’s and Pelosi’s of the nation, it is no doubt that many are out of touch, blind following the blind, who have never been truly educated on what makes America the global super-power, the richest nation on the planet… FREE MARKET

Before I delve, let me first concede that I am no expert on economics myself, simply a student of the great minds in whom these ideas were founded. Let me further say that it is NOT lost on me that there are geographical and topographical advantages that our nation has enjoyed which have indeed contributed to our wealth - albeit through the responsible stewardship of those who have gone before us.

In our nation, as it currently is; it does not seem to matter which party is in power, spending increases as does the size of government. We should take note, however, that although our deficit increases bipartisanly (I made up a word, lol), when taxes are cut (i.e. 2003) we see an increase in GDP and, ultimately an increase in tax-revenues. So, until we’re back where we’re supposed to be, continue to vote for Republicans. As I see it. Our problem is not that Republicans don’t understand conservative economics. In fact no one has a platform with better fiscal policies. The problem (one of the problems) is that we have representatives who do not act like Republicans, listen to the people’s voice, who do not follow the party’s platform.

As with all things change must start in our homes, in the minds of our children. Why don’t more people know of Friedman, Smith, Buffet, and Carnegie? Why are money and economics such ignored and off limit subjects in our schools and at homes? Change has got to come if our country is going to survive. Luckily for us to find this change, our proper direction, we need look no further than our own history, from whence we came. Who first comes to my mind, whom I was reminded of today: Milton Friedman. Probably the most brilliant economist of our time. Who I was never fortunate enough to meet before he died a couple of years ago, but from whom many have learned a great deal about how exactly this oh-so-efficient machine of capitalism works.

We need to remind our leaders what “Free Market” means. We need to educate our friends, co-workers and children about capitalism. Else we lose it to the media and the bureaucracies, and become the socialist nation that the democrats THINK they want. Watch the quick clip below. It’s an interview with Milton Friedman concerning Greed. Our schools, our churches, and the media cast wealth and personal agenda in such a negative light that it’s almost taboo to succeed. Milton puts that sentiment in its place, pointing out that while idealism MAY be romantic, it definitely isn’t pragmatic. And in a binary world where you have to chose between 0 and 1 - you take the 1, else dwell in the superfluities of ignorant, idealistic hope.

I have been fortunate enough to find great mentors. A few whom I have met, and many who don’t yet know my name. Below are a couple of reads I recommend for every family, as they are a mental detox when it comes to economics (micro & macro.)

Free to Choose - Milton Friedman
Capitalism & Freedom - Milton Friedman
Think & Grow Rich - Napoleon Hill
Essays In Positive Economics - Milton Friedman
The Richest Man in Babylon - George S. Clason
And, of course The Wealth of Nations - Adam Smith

Alright y’all, I gotta pack for convention.

Thanks to everyone who has sent me money to help pay for Minneappolis, I am very grateful. I will continue to accept funds until my credit cards are paid of, lol… so any help you can provide is appreciated!

Talk to you soon,

Help Me Make it to the Twin Cities!

(Trey Stinnett, Jerry Patterson, Pete Olson)

Friends,

I am absolutely stoked about the convention. I watch the news, go to the local meetings, and browse the blogosphere, and everyone is getting ramped for what is going to be an amazing, powerful, important, and successful National Convention.

So am I. As the final days are drawing near, I find myself poised to jump into the convention, both feet and start spreading the word that the young, the conservative, and the TEXAN voice is not silenced, but strong and energetic.

I want to thank you all for your help, your encouragement, and your support. I have one more thing to ask of you. These events aren’t cheap. As I understand it, it will cost my guests (parents) and me, about $5,000 to successfully attend the convention. Recent financial constraints have put me in a very tumultuous situation making it difficult, although not impossible, for me to make it out there.

If you could help, in any way, be it $50 or the whole $5,000, I would be eternally grateful. To help, click the ChipIn! link on the right-hand side of the screen, follow the instructions, and designate the amount you would like to contribute.

Just so you know who you are supporting:

• 23 Yrs Old

• 18 Years Active in Republican Party

• Endorsed by Right to Life

• Supported by Prominent Party Members

• Pro-Gun, Pro-Life, Pro-Military, Pro-Family

• Texas Aggie

• Served On Committees at my ‘08 SD & State Conventions

• Public Speaker

• Small Business Owner

• God-Fearing Christian

• 1st McCain Delegate to RNC

Thank you again for your support,

I

Republican National Convention ‘08!

Mike H. Gitfiddle

Hey folks!

I’ll be going to the Republican National Convention on September 1st in Minneapolis, MN. Last month I was elected as one of the 2 John McCain delegates to the convention.

I am very excited! I feel like this is just the beginning. I will have the opportunity to meet so many of our great leaders (and a few of the not-so-great ones.) According to my dad (he was an alternate in ‘96) there will be a lot of partying, politicking (of course), and picture taking.

I appreciate all those who voted for me, and promise to keep you up to date on what is going on at the convention here on my “politik” blog. Updates will come complete with images and youtube videos, no doubt!

I can’t wait to get there, meet people, and let the nation know what CD22 is all about. I will carry with me a message of true conservatism - Christian principle, family, and small business.

nope

Travis Bryan, Chistopher Harvey, and I will demonstrate to the media and our country that Barack Hussein Obama does not own the youth of our great nation!

That’s it for now. Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss any of my posts!

A July 4th Weekend to Remember!

Well, it’s independence day again. My 2nd favorite day of the year. The sun’s out, kids running in thesprinklers, foot-long corn dogs, country music, American flags waving. Freemen, Free-women, Free people enjoying freedom.

Makes you wonder doesn’t it? When our founding fathers fought for ourindependence from England in the revolutionary war, what was their vision? If they could see what we have become would they be proud or disappointed? Well, at least on this day, in this moment I can look around me and see a free people sitting on their lawns listening to the music they decide, reading the newspaper of their choice, praying to their God before they devour the bar-b-que that they bought with money they earned from jobs that they chose. And when I look around and I see this, a smile grows on my face as I imagine it would on the faces those men over 200 years ago.

I drive down the road and see literally hundreds of beautiful red, white, and blue flags flapping in the warm Texas wind, some higher than a church steeple, proclaiming that not only after hundreds of artillery shells and bullets bombarded Ft. McHenry for 25 hrs, but after almost 200 years that our flag is still there!

Well… I tell you what. I had a great weekend. Started off by participating in 2 parades. One in Friendswood, the other in Nassau Bay in support of Pete Olson. He’s such a great guy, down-to-earth, and conservative. He will do a much better job as our congressman than Nick Lampson is. Everyone who showed up to help out was nice, and in good spirit. Heck, what better way to spend Independence Day than supporting a leader in our free nation.

After a stop a Pei Wei and a quick tour through First Baptist Church Pasadena’s 4th celebration; Arik, Sara, Lilly, and I headed out to Uptown to meet up with a couple of friends. We went the long way, taking a tour down Memorial drive just as the fireworks were going off at Tinsley Park… we were literally just across the bayou we could feel the heat as we rolled by at a snail’s pace. It was magnificent. Thousands of people, of all races and creeds gathered to celebrate our freedom by participating in one of our favorite pastimes.

When we finally arrived at uptown, we had a little Starbucks (which was packed), went over to Chachos (more packed), had some fajitas and margaritas. We had a blast talking about everything from mindmunity to politics (of course), relationships, religion, and much more. There truly is nothing like fellowshipping with our friends. I was in such a great mood. I feel so blessed to have the freedom to do that - eating Mexican food in America with a diverse group of friends talking about whatever we want in the wee hours of the morning. Then Sarah showed us what is to be the 1st Gentlemen’s Tonic in America. Seems like it will be an awesome place. Home and in bed by 2am…

JULY 5th

So the 5th was great. We left early and headed down to the beach with Elizabeth, Cameron, and Nathan. An Irish Creme Monster Java or two complemented, quite nicely the red-dog laden carnivore of a customer who stood in line behind us at our pit stop on the way to Galveston. Upon arriving, Arik & I earned much-deserved blisters on our toes from a light jog up and down the beach, as the girls set up camp. A quick game of volleyball and we were off into the beautiful brown waves. Hunger upon us, we headed to the spot where we learned more about each other, fortifying old relationships and cultivating new. It was back to the beach for another game of VBall & a quick dip in the gulf with Waldo.

When we finally made it back home we gotall cleaned up (we jumped in the pool) and we headed over toBlock Buster (where the apparently now sell posters and prints to make up for their dieing revenues) to pick up their only copy of Boondock Saints. Checking out I noticed, much to my dismay, an issue of Rolling Stone with a picture of Barrack Hussein Obama on it. All squinty-eyed, this flag-lapel-laden, teflon candidate for president smiled (probably laughing a the propaganda-pushing, ignoramus who bought into his vacuous speeches and decided to waste a cover on him.) Anyway, so off to Arik & Lilian’s to watch the movie, ingest a delicious merlot (Vampire Vinyards), and youtube ’till we couldn’t keep our eyes open.

Our drive home was laced with singing and quoting from the movie and videos we had recently enjoyed, and the added in sarcastic reminiscing of the day’s events. Falling into bed with a sigh, I though -”how amazingly fortunate am I to be an American.”

Well that’s it. No story. No deep searching of my soul, bantering, or preaching from a soap-box… just a simple account of a weekend in my life where I didn’t worry, I didn’t get all caught up in the day-to-day… I simply enjoyed what means to be an American. Unencumbered, un-bothered, unafraid, and unashamed.
